Bancroft sees off challengers.

 

Tinwald Cycling Club travelled to Rakaia on Sunday to compete for the John Cleary Memorial Trophy.

 

The 50km handicap event attracted a good field of close to 50 riders.

 

Front maker Helen Bancroft had a day to remember, keeping the entire field at bay to score the victory.

 

The win was not ensured until the finish line, with Kerry Clough leading in the chasing bunch a mere 25 seconds behind Bancroft.

 

Lucy Kirwan rode strongly to secure the final podium position.

 

Brendan Davidson was in the thick of the finish to claim the fourth place spoils.

 

Liz Wylie and Dave Kiesanowski rounded out the top six.

 

Scratch marker Michael Templeton secured fastest time honours, riding the course in 69.41.  Co-markers Tony Ward and Hayden Jefferson claimed second and third time.

 

Leeston visitor Damian Corbet rode a super race to take the win in the junior 18km handicap event.

 

Paige Kiesanowski continued her good run of form to claim the second place spoils.

 

Ethan Stainger backed up last week’s win with a solid ride to secure third place.

 

Big brother Ashton Stainger took fourth and second fastest time honours.

 

Pocket rockets Jack Templeton and Lily Davidson made up the top half dozen.

 

Scratch rider Maddi Lowry secured fastest time honours riding the distance in 33.26.

 

Janette Hooper saw off the challengers in division 2 to take the win from Brian Ellis and Sue Templeton.

 

Next week the Club will contest a 48km graded scratch race around the Wakanui Beach block.

 

 

 

Cuttle Takes Victory on Home Turf

 

Marty Cuttle made the most of home ground advantage, by taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Club's, 45km handicap event around the roads of Methven on Sunday.

 

With the Dean Cooksley Memorial Trophy up for grabs, there was plenty of motivation for the riders to dig deep in the muggy conditions.

 

Cuttle and his co-markers rode strongly throughout the race, steadily making inroads into the front markers.

 

In the final kick to the line, Cuttle showed strength to draw clear and take the victor’s spoils. 

 

Paul Williams continued his consistent good run of results, charging into second place.

 

Michelle Knight produced another top shelf ride to take the final podium position.

 

Shona McGrath-Proctor showed she is getting back into some good biking form, securing the fourth place spoils.

 

Glen Marshall and Sarah Hewson rounded out the top six.

 

Darrell Kircher had the best of a tight sprint to claim fastest time honours, riding the course in 64.48.  Co-markers Tony Ward and Hayden Jefferson took second and third time.

 

The juniors and division 2 competed over 15km.

 

Ethan Stainger was rewarded for some good racing of late with the win and third fastest time honours.

 

Paige Keisanowski continued her good form of recent weeks, taking second place.

 

Ashton Stainger stormed into third place and in doing so also took second time.

 

Back marker Bree Roderick secured fourth place and fastest time honours, riding the course in 26.59.

 

Chloe Keisanowski took fifth place.

 

Debbie Skinner kept the chasing riders at bay to secure division 2 spoils.  Husband Andy Skinner had the best of a tight finish to take second place from Brian Ellis and Janette Hooper.

 

Jason Stainger was close behind in fifth and also claimed fastest time.

 

Next week the Club travels to Rakaia to contest a 48km handicap event.

 

 

UDEN LIFTS ALAN WYLIE MEMORIAL CUP

 

A hot fine day greeted the riders in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Wylie Family, 45km handicap event around the Christys Road block on Sunday.

 

With the field starting to come together as the event progressed it was anyone’s race to take, leading into the last lap.

 

This proved to be the case with the first 30 riders crossing the line within 60 seconds of each other.

 

It was John Uden who had the final say in a tight charge to the line to claim the major spoils and lift the Alan Wylie Memorial Cup.

 

Mark Summerfield backed up his good race the previous week, to secure the second place spoils.

 

His father Paul Summerfield again had to play second fiddle to his son, storming into third place.

 

Michelle Knight produced a solid ride getting to the line in fourth place.

 

Paul Williams and Matt Clough rounded out the top six.

 

Scratch marker Stu Lowe showed plenty of strength, riding the course in 63.17 to secure the fastest time spoils.  Co-markers Darrell Kircher and Wayne Clement claimed second and third time.

 

The juniors and division 2 contested an 18km handicap event.

 

Leeston junior Paige Keisanowski produced her best race of the season, riding off the front and holding the field at bay to secure the victory.

 

Courtney Elliott showed plenty of potential taking second place and fastest time honours, covering the distance in 34.33.

 

Hannah Robertson having her first start found the line strongly to take third place.

 

Ashton Stanger took fourth place and second time honours, with younger brother Ethan in fifth place.

 

Brian Ellis took division 2 bragging rights, with Jason Stanger securing fastest time and second place.

 

Next week the Club travels to Methven to contest a 45km handicap event.
