Ladies lead the way

The ladies led the way in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, White Fox and Jones Lawyers, 45km handicap event around the Dawson’s Road block on Sunday.

The front markers worked hard in raising temperatures to keep the chasing groups at bay.

It was recent new comer to the district, Marcel Smithers, who had the final say in a four-up sprint to the line, claiming the victory and lifting the major spoils.

The evergreen Dave Shurrock produced another solid ride to secure second place.

Kerry Clough was in the thick of the finish to claim the final podium position.

Liz Wylie produced her best performance of the season, putting in a sterling effort to take fourth place.

Ronnie Campbell and Doug Coley led in the chasing bunch to secure fifth and sixth places respectively.

Kristine Marriott kept the ladies at the forefront of the day, claiming fastest time honours, riding the distance in 68.48.

Co-markers Coleman Burke and Richard Kirwan took second and third time.

The juniors and Division 2 contested a 15km handicap event.

Alex Holmes, building towards a Coast to Coast team’s debut, produced a powerful sprint to take victory in the junior event.

Maddi Lowry continued her good form to secure second place and second time.

Back marker Ethan Titheridge rode strongly to take third place and fastest time honours, riding the course in 24.51.

Debbie Skinner secured division 2 honours from Janette Hooper and Mary Pearson.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event on the Grahams road block.
