Bold Effort Secures Kirwan Victory

Lucy Kirwan showed real grit when securing victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Hinds Seed Cleaning, Paul Wylie Cyclerama, 48km handicap event at Hinds on Sunday.

In doing so she lifting one of the Club’s oldest trophies, the 94 year old Boomerang Cup.

Kirwan put everything on the line making a solo break 10km from the finish and held out a determined chasing bunch by 9 seconds.

Matt Marshall led the chasing group in to claim the second place spoils with Kristine Marriott in the thick of the finish securing third place.

Geoff Rhodes produced one of his best performances of the year to take fourth place.

Richard Kirwan could only look on as his wife secured the win but finished strongly to take fifth place with John Harcourt in sixth.

Steve Hands led in fellow scratch markers Brad Hudson and Tony Ward to take fastest time honours, riding the course in 71.51.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 17km handicap event.

Maddie Lowry had a great ride to stay away from the back markers to secure the win.

Matt Clough stormed through the field from the scratch mark to claim second and fastest time honours covering the distance in 31.53.

Hot on his tail in third place was Oliver Davidson with Ethan Titheridge, Connie Davidson, and Suzie Leech rounding out the top six.

Debbie Skinner backed up last week’s maiden victory, taking line honours in division 2.

Nicole Ellis charged into second place with Hilary Singlewood claiming the final podium position.

Brian Ellis secured fastest time honours.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.

Irish Eyes are Smiling at Lake Coleridge

Irishman Coleman Burke was all smiles after recording victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Jasama Farm, 45km handicap event on the picturesque Lake Coleridge course on Sunday.

Burke, who had shown the week before he was riding into good form left nothing to chance riding off the front of his mark and finding the lead on the return journey to the finish line.

He convincingly won, with Dave Sullivan pulling out a solid effort on his favoured course to secure the second place spoils.

Ron Pithie also showed a clean set of heels to take the final podium position.

Brendon Davidson dug deep to keep the chasing riders at bay to secure fourth with John Harcourt and Dean Rattray rounding out the top six.

Scratch rider Hamish McDonald took fastest time honours covering the undulating course in 61.27 with Sam Letham and Craig Domigan securing second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 14km handicap event.

Lawrence Pithie, riding off the scratch mark, stormed thought the field to take line and fastest time honours covering the distance in 22.42.

Abe O’Donnell was hot on his tail securing second place.

Oliver Davidson continued his good form with a hard fought third place.

Connor Leov, Bella Roulston and Ethan Titheridge filled the top half dozen spots.

First time starter, Debbie Skinner took the major honours in division 2 with the ever consistent Hilary Singlewood claiming second place from Kerry Clough, who also recorded the fastest time.

Next week the Club heads to Hinds to contest a 50km handicap event.

Close Racing Order of the Day

Tinwald Cycling Club riders tested themselves over 45km, in Drummond and Etheridge : Laser Electrical graded scratch event around the Christies Road block on Sunday.

All four grades were evenly contested with the final results determined on the finish line by the barest of margins.

Stu Lowe held on grimly having ridden off the front inside the last few kilometres to take A grade victory by a slim margin over the charging bunch led in by Alex Hooper with Steve Hands on his shoulder securing the third place spoils.

B grade honours were lifted by Kevin McCormick fresh from a very successful Masters Games. Irish ex-pat, Coleman Burke took second place in a tight finish with Kristine Marriott.

Barry Begg put his good Christmas / New Year training to use claiming the number one spot in C grade. Bruce Blackburn continued his good form securing second place with Christchurch visitor, Ray O’Connor taking the final podium position.

Roger Wilson pulled out all the stops to chase down Don Morrison in the shadows of the finish line to win D grade. Morrison held on gamely for second with John Harcourt showing plenty of cheek in third.

The juniors and division 2 contested an 18km handicap event.

Dylan Leech backed up his first place last week with another storming ride to   take victory.

He saw off the challenge of his sister Suzie Leech by the smallest of margins, having almost chased him down on the line.

Matheson Colquhoun had both Team Leech riders in his sights on the line to take third place.

Scratch marker, Jessie Banks rode the course in 29.32 to claim fastest time honours.

Beth Begg made it a good day for the Begg stable securing division 2 honours from Hillary Singlewood and Brian Ellis.

Next week the Club travels to Terrace Downs to contest a 45km handicap event.
