FLYING SCOTSMAN SCORES VICTORY

Mid Canterbury’s very own “Flying Scotsman” Gregor Robertson took victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Davidson Refrigeration and Electrical, 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block on Sunday.

Robertson and his co-markers worked hard to find the front with the final result only decided on the line with some 13 riders crossing within seconds of each other.

Barry Begg, sporting a new stream lined hair style, continued his fine start to the season securing second place.

Gavin Borthwick, finding some of his good form of old, claimed the final podium position.

Brett McGinity, Donald Sutton and Ryan Jackson rounded out the top six.

Scratch marker Bailey O’Donnell secured fastest time honours riding the course in 66.23. Brad Hudson and Michael Templeton took second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap event.

Lily Davidson celebrated her first start in the big show with a hard earned win, beating home the charging duo of Jessie Banks and Jenna Borthwick.

Mitchell Fitzsimmons backed up from last week, claiming fastest time honours.

Oliver Davidson and Ethan Titheridge took second and third time respectively.

Rachel Russell claimed the major spoils in division 2, seeing off the challenges of Les Brown, Jacquie Fitzsimmons, and Hilary Singlewood.

Next week the Club will contest a graded scratch event around the Blackbridge block.    

SCRATCH MARKERS SECURE LAST GASP WIN

The back markers found the front of the race inside the last 600m of Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Robbies Bar and Bistro, White Fox and Jones Lawyers, 45km handicap event around the Dawsons Road block on Sunday.

A bold effort from a breakaway group of front markers came agonisingly close to holding out the charging scratch markers but it wasn’t to be.

Scratch rider Steve Hands found the line the best to claim the victory and fastest time honours covering the distance in 63.31.

Co-marker Tony Ward stormed into second place with junior rider Bailey O’Donnell in the thick of the finish securing third place.

Michael Templeton, Nathan Tew and Myles O’Donnell rounded out the top half dozen.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 15km handicap event.

Ethan Titheridge continued his great form deservedly taking the win and in doing so secured second fastest time honours.

Oliver Davidson claimed second place and third time pushing Ethan right to the line.

Caitlin Titheridge made it a good day for the Titheridge stable taking third place.

Jenna Borthwick and Jessie Banks filled the next two spots, with sole scratch marker Abe O’Donnell coming in sixth and lifting fastest time honours riding the course in 23.38.

Les Brown took division 2 glory seeing to the challenge of Beth Begg.

Jack Templeton claimed the junior development win edging out Emma Begg.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.    

GIRL POWER TO THE FORE

It was a day for the women in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Brad Hudson Flooring : Mathieson Chartered Accountants, 38km handicap event on the Wakanui – Hakatere course on Sunday.

Six of the top seven positions were filled by the ladies, an even more impressive effort when you take into account that over sixty riders went to the start line.

Kelly Dixon had the final say in the sprint to the finish to claim victory and major spoils from Michelle Knight, who put a spirited battle to secure second place.

Lucy Kirwan opened her seasons account with a gutsy ride, filling the final podium position.

Janette Hooper continues to improve with a fine fourth place.

Doreen Lembke took fifth with Brett McGinity in sixth place, the first man home.

Scratch rider Bailey O’Donnell carried on his great form from the recent junior Tour of Southland claiming fastest time honours, riding the course in 49.45. Darrell Kircher and Steve Hands took second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap.

Scratch marker Abe O’Donnell had a day to remember securing the victory and taking fastest time honours covering the distance in 26.10.

Maddie Lowry charged into second place with Rosie Gray right on her tail in third position.

Noah Hollamby backed up last week’s win with a solid fourth place.

Ethan Titheridge’s strong start to the season continued securing fifth and third fastest time with Timaru visitor Mitchell Fitsimmons taking second time.

Beth Begg dug deep to take division 2 honours from Keryn O’Donnell and Jacquie Fitzsimmons.

Lily Davidson rode a super race to win the junior development 8km, holding out a fast finishing Jack Templeton.

Next week the Club will contest a 45km handicap event on the Dawson Road block.
