Lawler powers to win

Regular Christchurch visitor Quinten Lawler opened his season account in the best possible way taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Nudges Furniture Removal, 50km handicap event around the Rakaia block on Sunday.

Lawler’s efforts saw him lift the John Cleary Memorial trophy.

Lawler and his co-markers worked hard to find the strong lead bunch in the concluding stages, having enough in the legs to contest the finish.

Lawler got up on the line to take the win in the shadow of the line from Alex Mann.

Marty Cuttle produced a top ride to secure the final podium spot.

Kristine Marriott was in the thick of the finish to claim the fourth place spoils.

Nick Grijns and John Doherty round out the top six.

Scratch marker Andre Free rode the course in 67.26, to take fastest time honours.

Co-marker Jack Gorrie, and Cole Harris recorded second and third time respectively.

The juniors and division 2 contested an 18km handicap race.

Nic Dalley produced a great ride to find the front of the race and hold on strongly to secure his first win of the season.

Oscar Gorrie riding off the back mark charged though the field to secure second place and also recorded fastest time, riding the course in 35.35.

Declan Gilbert was hot on his heels to claim third place.

Flynn Scott and Jamie Hooper rounded out the top five.

Stacey Hooper took division 2 honours.
