Ward grinds out win

The summer of nor westers continued, with riders battling strong winds in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, McIntosh Group, 60km handicap race around the Dawsons Road block on Sunday.

Fittingly it was Tony Ward who took the victory and in doing so lifted the trophy in his father Eddie Ward’s name.

Having battled to the front of the race in the final lap, Ward and his co-markers had to keep the pace on to ensure the chasing back marks did not catch them.

A margin they maintained by a meagre 9 seconds on finish line.

Paul Brake continues his great run of top efforts, with a well-earned second place.

Junior Louie Audeau produced one of his strongest riders of the season to finish with the leading bunch.

Kyra Marrett is another to impress this season, with an eye catching ride to take the final podium position and also lift the Chris Ward Cup for first female rider home.

Fourth place getter Kyle Gray recorded fastest time, riding the distance in 83.25.

Craig Domigan and Kris Rush recorded second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 15km handicap event.

I was a great day for the Broomhall stable, producing the trifecta with young Dane Broomhall leading home the field to take the win.

Blake Broomhall dug deep to secure the second place spoils.

Kaidyn Broomhall was right on his tail to finish third and lift fastest time honours, riding the course in 24.18.

Oscar Gorrie and Carter Shepherd rounded out the top five.

Lucy Hudson lifted the Chris Ward Cup for first junior girl home.

Stacey Hooper returned to some good form taking division 2 honours from Liz Wylie, and Mike Richards.

Next week Club Championship ribbon will go on the line over 64km around the Wakanui Beach block.
