Double celebrations for Brookland

Mitch Brookland celebrated his birthday in style when claiming victory in  Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Stoked Cycles, Netherby Butchery, 48km handicap event around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.

Brookland and his co-markers got into their busy from the gun setting a solid pace, picking up the front bunches at regular intervals.

They found the front of the race on the final lap but needed to keep the race true, mindful of the back markers eating into their lead.

Brookland had the best of the sprint finish, with up and coming triathlete Josh Young producing a top ride to claim the second place spoils.

Timaru visitor Nathan Fenwick secured the final podium position in the tight finish.

Kris Bowditch was rewarded for a good day at the office with fourth place.

Mike Pearce and Jason Smith rounded out the top six.

Fastest time honours went to Michael Audeau, riding the course in a quick 62.32.

Second and third time went to Craig Domigan and Kyle Gray.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap race.

Charlotte Neal stole the show with a great ride to secure the win.

Tom Reid showed his toughness from the front mark to hold on for second place.

Jack Hooper took third place in a tight finish from back marker Zac Brookland who recorded fastest time honour, riding the distance in 27.07.

Division 2 saw Kenny Johnston take the win from Brian Ellis and Allan Johns.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.
