Cycling Season Opener
The Tinwald Cycling Club kicked off its one hundredth and first season with a
grade scratch race around the Christy’s Road block on Sunday.
“A” and “B” grade competed over 36km with “C” and “D” grade covering 27km.
Michael Audeau showed good early season form to secure the victory in “A”
grade in a tight finish with second place getter Kyle Gray. Steve Hands was in
the thick of the finish to claim the final podium position.
Audeau and his co-markers covered the distance in 48.50.
Oliver Davidson had the best of the “B” grade sprint to take the win. Monique
Brake backed up her second place in the recent Twizel to Timaru race with a
solid second place. Mitch Brookland secured third place.
Jason Wilson produced his trade mark strong finish to take the major spoils in
“C” grade. Paul Summerfield and Jelle Hendrikson rounded out the top three.
The “D” grade cup was lifted by Paul Williams with a strong effort riding away
from his bunch in the concluding stages. Richard Begg will be happy with his
days work taking second place with Don Morrison securing the third place
spoils.
The juniors “A” grade rode 18km with the “B” grade racing over 9km.
Louie Audeau carried on last season’s good performances taking victory in
“A” grade, with first time starter Jack Hooper
grabbing second place.
Eden Brake took the victors spoils in “B” grade getting up over Carter
Shepherd in a tight sprint finish.
Racheal Shurrock secured division 2 honours.
Next week the Club will contest a 32km handicap event around the Wakanui
Beach block.
