Long time between drinks for Shurrock

Tinwald Cycling Club stalwart Dave Shurrock turned the clock back several decades when he sprinted to victory in the Stronechrubie, 48km handicap cycle race at Mount Somers on Sunday.

Shurrock recalled the last time he lifted a Club trophy would have been in the 1990’s.

He and co-marker Liz Wylie worked strongly together to keep the chasing groups at bay on the back country course.

Shurrock getting the nod on the line in a spirited finish with Wylie, who continued her great season form with a well-deserved second place.

Michelle Davidson rode strongly to secure the final podium position.

Tony McManus will be pleased with his efforts claiming the fourth place spoils.

Kaylib Gorrie led the chasing bunch in with a strong sprint to claim fifth place from Leeston regular Steve Caldwell.  

Scratch marker Kyle Grey showed real strength breaking clear from his co-maker to claim fastest time honours, riding the course in 64.52.

Mike Pearce and Larry Neal secured second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contest a 16km handicap event.

Jack Gorrie secured victory on his home course with a great ride.

Not to be out done his younger brother Oscar Gorrie was in the thick of the finish to claim second and complete the Gorrie quinella.

Louie Audeau backed up last week’s good ride with a strong finish to take third place.

Connor Spillane was in fourth place, with his big sister Zoe Spillane claiming fastest time honour, covering the distance in 27.18.

Ange Leadley secured division 2 honours.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.
