FITZSIMONS TO THE FORE

The Fitzsimons family had a day to remember in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Bedrock Bar and Stone Grill, Cycling Solutions, 36km handicap event around the Winchmore Church block on Sunday.

Aaron Fitzsimons and his co-markers charged through the field, finding the front in the second half of the event.

Fitzsimons jumped early in the charge to the line holding on strongly to take the victory and claim the Blackburn Cup.

Ross Templeton, on the back of a solid training block in Central Otago, stormed into second place with Paul Macfie hard on his wheel in third.

Kristine Marriott found the line strongly to take fourth place with Cathal Guiney and Don Morrison rounding out the top six.

Scratch marker Steve Hands secured fastest time honours riding the distance in 50.08. Co-Markers Tony Ward and Michael Templeton claimed second and third time.

The juniors contested an 18km handicap event.

Not to be outdone by his father, Jacob Fitzsimons rode strongly, to secure the win, seeing of the challenge of second place getter Emma Begg.

Alyssa McGinity produced a great ride to take the final podium position.

Jacob’s big brother Mitchell Fitzsimons keep the family name in bright lights securing fourth and fastest time honours, covering the course in 28.37.

Maddi Lowry and Caitlin Titheridge rounded out the top half dozen and also secured third and second fastest times respectively.

Beth Begg lifted division 2 honours.

Next week the Club travels to Methven to contest the Dean Cooksley Memorial.
