Templeton Duo to the Fore

The father – son duo of Ross and Michael Templeton scooped the major prizes in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Jims Test and Tag, 45km mass start event on Sunday.

Battling against a solid westerly on the outward leg from Mt Somers to the old shearers’ huts at Hakatere Station, the field split into a number of bunches with a lead group of 10 riders.

The quick run home saw several of the group peel off, leaving six riders to contest the finish.

It was Michael Templeton, who for the second week running, had the final say and claim the victory, covering the distance in 72.35.

Brad Hudson produced a top ride to take the second place spoils, with Hamish McDonald in the thick of the finish to take the final podium position.

Steve Hands, Rob Hooper and Ross Templeton rounded out the top six.

Templeton senior’s sterling ride to stay with the lead bunch saw him deservedly lift the sealed handicap honours.

Ryan Jackson pulled out his best ride of the season to claim second place in the sealed handicap, with Timaru visitor Doreen Lembke taking the third place spoils.

Junior rider Alyssa McGinity bravely battled the elements and was justly rewarded for her efforts claiming line and sealed handicap honours.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event on the Grahams Road block.
