Templeton lifts Ineson Cups

Scratch rider Michael Templeton and his co-markers went through the field to set up a tight finish in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Canterbury Tree Topping Ltd, 48km handicap event around the Wakanui block on Sunday.

Templeton claimed the victor’s spoils by the barest of margins over the evergreen Tony Ward, with Nathan Tew securing the final podium position.

The result rounded out a good day for the scratch markers with Templeton lifting the Club’s Patron, Merv Ineson’s cup and securing time honours, riding the course in 68.47.

Steve Hands, Nigel Douglas and Kristine Marriott rounded out the top six.

It was junior rider Bailey O’Donnell’s performance that caught the eye, riding away from his co-markers in the final 4km, underlining his potential in the sport of cycling.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap race.

Caitlin Titheridge was rewarded for some solid performances this season with a hard fought win, deservedly lifting the Ineson Cup for the cadets.

Her brother Ethan was right on her tail to secure second place and also second fastest time honours.

Abe O’Donnell charged through the field to take third place and was rewarded for a top ride with fastest time honours. Abe rode the distance in 25.26.

Jack Templeton and Oliver Davidson filled the next two positions.

Pete Resteaux took division 2 honours.

Next week the Club will travel to Mt Somers to contest a 45km mass start event.
