AVIS LIFTS PEACH CUP
Ross Avis made the long weekend a memorable one, lifting the Peach Cup in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, 45km handicap event at Methven on Sunday.
The Peach family have had a long association with the Club ensuring that the race would be a spirited one.
Avis and his co-markers combined with several other marks bringing a competitive group of 15 riders together for the final charge to the line.
Victory was secured by the barest of margins from second place getter Brendon Davidson. Neil Wylie continued his good form to take third place spoils. Christchurch to Hanmer Springs winner, Myles O'Donnell claimed fourth place with Russell Ward in fifth.
Jaron Stephens rode the course in 67.38 to secure fastest time honours from co-markers Daniel Rafferty and Steve Hands.
Division 2 and juniors raced over 20km.
Alan Dowdle proved to be the strongest in Division 2 claiming the win and fastest time from Graham Russell and Josh Dowdle.
Laurent Fifield was rewarded for some solid efforts of late with victory and fastest time honours. He was pushed right to the line by co-marker Josh Donaldson who secured second place. Frances Smith produced a top effort grabbing the third podium position. Laurent covered the distance in 36.07.
Ben Sutton continued his dominance of the under 15 grade securing the win and fastest time award. However he only picked up the front with the finish line in sight. Abe O'Donnell led in this brave group containing Jesse Banks and Alex Holmes who took third and fourth spots respectively. Ben's time was 39.30.
Next week the Club races a handicap event at Wakanui.
