Costello in good New Year’s form

Penny Costello kicked the New Year off in the best possible way taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Phat Duck Brew Bar and Kitchen, On Your Bike Hire, 36km handicap event round the Winchmore block on Sunday.

Costello and her co-markers worked hard to find the front of the race in the later part of the final lap and held on strongly to keep the chasing bunches at bay.

In the sprint to the line it was Costello who had the final say to take the victor’s spoils.

Abbey Horricks had a great ride to secure second place.

Liz Wylie produced a storming ride to charge into third place.

Nig Chatterton will be pleased with his early year form taking fourth place with Helen Bancroft and Paul Summerfield rounding out the top six.

Scratch marker Brent Spencer led in a good bunch of co-markers to secure fastest time honours, riding the distance in 49.00.

The ever-consistent Tony Ward, and Sam Manson secured second and third time respectively.

The juniors and division 2 contested an 18km handicap event.

The front markers Honor Bradford and Penny Marriott rode strongly to find the line first. 

It was Honor who had the best of the sprint finish to claim victory, with Penny taking second place.

Ryan Gallagher carried over his good end of year form to take third place.

Zac Brookland and Zoe Spillane made their trip north worthwhile securing fourth the fifth places.

Sixth place getter, back marker Mitch Brookland lifted fastest time honours, covering the course in 29.47.

Debbie Skinner claimed bragging rights in division 2 getting home first in a bunch sprint from Kenny Johnston and Andy Skinner.

Next week the Club will contest a 45km handicap event around the Christies Road block.
