CHRISTIE LIFTS BLACKBURN CUP - Jason Christie fresh from a successful Tour of Nelson as a member of the Subway Cycling Team that claimed the General Classification, King of Mountains and Sprint jerseys, powered his way to victory in The Courier / Radio Network cycle race held on the roads around Winchmore on Sunday.

CYCLIST'S START NEW YEAR - The Tinwald Cycling Club started the New Year's racing programme on Sunday with a time trial on Mitcham Road hosted by Health 2000 and Robbie's Bar and Bistro. The open grade's were split into four sections and raced over 25km. All grades were tightly contested with times very close.

HANDS TAKES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - Steven Hands raised hand at the end of the Malcolm Lovett Automotive / Tinwald Cycling Club Championship raced over 48km on the roads around Wakanui showed his joy in hitting the line first in a hard fought victory over his game co markers. Raced over 3 laps including a number of small climbs to break the field up, the race took shape over the second climb with 8 riders getting away and setting about building a gap on the chasing groups.

CYCLIST TO FIGHT OUT CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES - One of the Tinwald Cycling Club's blue ribbon events, the Club Championships will be raced on Sunday around the roads of Wakanui. The 3 lap Malcolm Lovett Automotive Ltd open event incorporating a number of small climbs to extent the field will cover a total of 48km.

CRITERIUM SERIES DECIDED - The third and final round of the Tinwald Cycling Club, Roost Mortgage criterium series was held on Monday evening in the industrial area. A number of grades were undecided going into the final round and as such provided some exciting and close racing.

HENDRY LEADS FROM START TO FINISH - Limit rider Grant Hendry took line honours in the Sim's Bakery and Hinds Seed Cleaning Co Ltd, Tinwald Cycling Club 40km handicap race on Sunday and in doing so lifted the Whiting Cup. Hendry and co-marker Liz Christian rode superbly off the front to stay away from the field of 38 chasing riders, the race was not decided until the final sprint with Hendry getting to the line just in front of Christian.

RISDON WINS JOHN CLEARY MEMORIAL - Robbie Risdon lifted the inaugural John Cleary Memorial Trophy in the Tinwald Cycling Club's ACL handicap race around the roads and streets of Rakaia on Sunday. Many of John's family made the trip to Rakaia to witness an exciting race that honoured John who pasted away earlier in the year. John Cleary was a gifted cyclist winning a number of New Zealand track titles and numerous races on both road and track, he was also remembered as a character of some note.
