LYSAGHT SPRINTS TO VICTORY

Greg Lysaght fresh from conquering Christchurch's LeRace sprinted to victory in Tinwald Cycling Club's, 40km handicap event raced at Chertsey on Sunday.

With a field in excess of 50 riders, Lysaght and his co-markers worked hard to keep the chasing bunches at bay. Their commitment paid off with less than 20 seconds separating them on the finish line from the chasing group.

Bruce Albon claimed second place spoils, missing out on the top prize by the barest of margins. Adena Middleton rode strongly to secure third place. Caroline Askin and Alex Crawford were right in the thick of the finish to take fourth and fifth places respectively.

Scratch rider Lauren Ellis covered the course in 55.56 to secure fastest time honours from co-markers Steve Hands and Brad Hudson.

Division 2 saw Barry Linwood take victory from Tania Tocher and Janette Hooper.

The juniors raced over 13.5km. Brendon Whalley continued his good form picking up fastest time honours and the winners ribbon in the under 17 event. Sam Cullimore and Laurent Fifield gave plenty of cheek in the charge to the line to deservedly take second and third places respectively. Brendon rode the event in 22.10.

Ben Sutton rode strongly off the scratch mark in the under 15 event to find the front in the home straight and go on to victory and in doing so take fastest time honours in 24.47. Second place was lifted by Bradley Whalley with Jesse Banks taking the third place spoils.

Next week the Club travels to Methven to compete in a 45km handicap event.
