Neal marches on

Larry Neal’s stellar season on the bike continued when he took victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Davidson Refrigeration and Electrical, 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block on Sunday.  

Neal who has been one of the big movers this season, worked hard with his co-markers to find the front of the race. 

In a competitive charge to the line he held out second place getter Brent Cowie.

Neil Wylie produced his best result of the season to claim the final podium position.

Kev Opele rode strongly to secure the fourth place spoils.

Paul Macfie and Jamie Smitheram rounded out the top six.

Brent Spencer produced a solid ride of the scratch mark to take fastest time honours, riding the distance in 70.13.

Co-markers Tony Ward and Brad Hudson secured second and third time respectively.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap race.

Leah Reid dug deep in the concluding stages of the race to overhaul the front runners and hold on for the win.

Zoe Spillane who continues to impress with a great ride, took second place.

Mitch Brookland showed he is coming into some good form claiming the third place spoils.

Daniel Gould, Lily Davidson, and Sarah Gould filled the final half dozen spots.

Ferg Sail rode the course in 28.13 to take fastest time honours.

After a number of near misses, Hillary Singlewood took the division 2 win from Kenny Johnston and Brian Ellis.

Next week the Club will contest a 50km handicap event at Hinds.        

Smithers all the way

Marcel Smithers continued her great form this season, taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Terrace Downs Resort, Jasma Farm, 47km handicap event on the undulating Lake Coleridge course on Sunday. 

Smithers made her move on the Acheron climb and created a good buffer to see her stay clear of the chasing group over the final 20km.

Glen Marshall had his best race of the season leading in the chasing group to secure second place.

Paul Williams rode strongly to ensure he was amongst the prizes, taking the third place spoils.

Roger Wilson found the course to his liking rounding out a good day in fourth place.

Michelle Davidson, Don Morrison, and Larry Neal put in solid rides to fill the top six spots.

Christchurch visitor Scott McDonnell secured the fastest time honours, riding the course in 68.37.

Oliver Davidson and Brent Spencer took second and third time honours.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 14km handicap event.

Daniel Gould backed up his great form in recent weeks to take the win and lift the Spicer Cup.

The Gould stable quinellaed the race, with little sister Sarah Gould producing a storming ride to take second place.

Tegan Marriott continued her great vein of good form to fill the final podium position.

Lily Davidson, Penny Marriott, and Jack Templeton rounded out the top six.

Scratch marker Ferg Sail took fastest time honours covering the distance in 25.00.

Brian Ellis claimed division 2 bragging rides, getting up over Kenny Johnston.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.    

Tight racing order of the day

Good fields went to the line in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Canterbury Tree Topping Ltd, 48km graded scratch event around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.

With a solid field of 17 riders in “A” grade there were plenty of chances on the start line.

It was Oliver Davidson who had the final say in a tight sprint finish with Steve Hands to secure the major spoils in “A” grade.

Fraser Sharp finished strongly to take third place, with Tony Ward in fourth. 

“B” grade saw a bunch finish, with Jake Beeman finding enough in the charge to the line to take the victory.

Gary Weston stormed into second place.

Marty Cuttle produced one of his best efforts of the season to take third, with the ever present Jamie Smitheram in fourth.

Paul Chapman secured an all the way win in “C” grade, riding off the front mid race and holding on gamely.

Don Morrison took second place by the barest of margin in a grandstand finish with third place getter Roger Wilson.

Marcel Smithers was on their tails in fourth place.

Brent Hudson had the final say in “D” grade in another hotly contested finish, to take the win.

Kerry Clough was in the thick of the finish to take second, with Dave Shurrock and Rachel Reid rounding out the top four.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap event.

A great field of juniors went to the line.

Jack Templeton produced a storming ride from the middle marks to find the front and take the victory.

Co-marker Daniel Gould was equally as impressive finishing several seconds behind in second.

Penny Marriott continues to show she will be one to watch in the future, with another trade mark strong ride to take the final podium spot.

Little sister Tegan Marriott gave nothing away, producing a super ride to secure the fourth place spoils.

James Reid and Sarah Gould rounded out the top six.

Scratch marker Mitch Brookland took time honours, riding the distance in 29.39.

Kenny Johnston took division 2 honours, seeing off the challenges from Brian Ellis and Janette Hooper.

Next week the Club travels to Terrace Downs to contest a 50km handicap event.
